Medicare-Certified Home Health Care
Home health care provides skilled care to help people regain health and mobility while remaining in their home. Medicare Certified Home health requires a prescription from a physician. This type of home care is a part of a person’s medical insurance benefit. It is often called ‘Medicare Certified’ even when a person is not of Medicare age, due to most insurance companies require the same guidelines be followed as does Medicare. A person must need intermittent skilled nursing care, or physical, occupational, or speech therapy to qualify for this benefit. Bathing assistance (short term,) and Social Services are also covered, but only while skilled services are involved. A person must also be homebound, which means that it is a taxing effort to leave home and usually requires assistance. For more detailed information go to www.CMS.gov
Unfortunately, Medicare and most medical insurance plans do not cover the cost of having someone to come to the home and do custodial or private duty care. Transportation or companion care are also not covered under this type of plan.
